FAQs on Excavation Services

Excavation and trenching are related but distinct terms in the context of construction and earthmoving:

  • Excavation: Excavation is a broader term that refers to the process of digging, removing, and relocating earth, soil, rock, or other materials from a designated area. Excavation encompasses various tasks, including digging foundations, creating basements, grading land, and preparing sites for construction. It involves larger-scale operations that may require heavy machinery and are often part of more extensive construction projects.
  • Trenching: Trenching specifically refers to the act of digging narrow and elongated excavations in the ground. Trenches are typically deeper than they are wide and are often used for specific purposes like installing utility lines, drainage systems, or underground cables. Trenches are generally smaller in scale compared to excavation and serve targeted functions in various industries, including construction, plumbing, utilities, and landscaping.

While both excavation and trenching involve digging and moving earth, the key difference lies in their scale, purpose, and the specific tasks they facilitate within construction and infrastructure projects.

Yes, a gravel driveway does require regular maintenance to ensure its longevity, functionality, and aesthetic appeal. Over time, gravel driveways can experience issues such as potholes, ruts, erosion, and uneven surfaces due to factors like traffic, weather, and drainage.

Maintenance tasks for a gravel driveway typically include:

  • Grading: Periodically leveling the surface to address ruts and uneven areas caused by traffic and weather.
  • Adding Gravel: Replenishing gravel to fill in low spots and maintain the proper thickness of the driveway surface.
  • Compaction: Using heavy equipment to compact the gravel, enhancing its stability and reducing the risk of erosion.
  • Weed Control: Removing weeds and vegetation that can grow through the gravel and undermine the driveway’s integrity.
  • Drainage Management: Ensuring proper drainage to prevent water accumulation and erosion.
  • Pothole Repair: Filling in potholes to maintain a smooth driving surface.

By investing in routine maintenance, property owners can extend the life of their gravel driveways, improve driving comfort, and minimize the need for costly repairs. Consulting with professionals experienced in driveway maintenance can provide tailored guidance for optimal upkeep practices based on local conditions and usage patterns.

The cost of trenching per foot varies significantly depending on several factors. Trenching costs are influenced by the type of project, the depth and width of the trench, the type of soil, accessibility, the presence of existing utilities, and local labor and material costs. As of my last update in September 2021, the average range for trenching costs can be anywhere from $2 to $10 per linear foot.

For smaller projects like residential utility installations or irrigation systems, the cost might be closer to the lower end of the range. Larger and more complex projects, such as utility line installations or major infrastructure projects, could fall on the higher end.

It’s important to obtain quotes from local contractors and discuss the specifics of your project to get a more accurate estimate. Keep in mind that trenching costs can also include additional expenses like equipment rental, labor, backfilling, and site restoration.

Frequently Asked Questions About Septic System Services

Alternative septic systems are designed for properties where traditional septic systems are unsuitable due to soil conditions, space limitations, or environmental concerns. These systems often include advanced treatment processes to reduce environmental impact. Conventional septic systems, on the other hand, typically involve a septic tank and a drain field, where the soil absorbs and naturally treats the effluent from the tank.

Regular inspections and pumping are crucial to the long-term health of your septic system. It is recommended to have your system inspected by professionals like us every 1 to 3 years. Pumping frequency depends on the size of your septic tank and the number of people in your household, but generally, it should be done every 3 to 5 years.

Common signs that indicate your septic system may need repair include slow-draining sinks and toilets, sewage backups in your home, foul odors around the septic tank or drainfield, and unusually lush vegetation in the drainfield area. If you notice any of these signs, contact us immediately to avoid more serious damage.

Yes, heavy rain can lead to excess water infiltrating your septic system, which may cause it to flood. This can disrupt the biological processing in the septic tank and even lead to sewage backing up into the house or surfacing in your yard. Proper site evaluation and system maintenance can help mitigate these issues.

Maintaining your septic system involves regular inspections and pumping, conserving water to avoid overloading the system, avoiding flushing non-biodegradable materials, and keeping heavy vehicles away from the tank and drainfield areas. Additionally, be mindful of planting only grass over and near your septic system to prevent root intrusion from trees and shrubs.

I will definitely be recommending this business to others. He was professional and very friendly. Did exactly what I needed done. Repaired my broken septic top and riser. A landscape company had run over it and crushed it. Perfect and quick repair. Always stayed in touch and was always on time and worked until job was done. I needed my shed to be graded in due to a slope in the area. He filled and graveled it so that there will be no erosion and made it look great too. Spread a drive to it also. I will be calling him again for my future project...more excavation needs done. Highly recommend this company !Posted 2 before pictures an d 2 afters of the shed part..

Russell from RTF LandWorks came out and assessed our groundwater issue. We had water standing in our front yard after rain storms and it never seemed to dry. Russell quickly assessed the situation and recommended a few different options to correct the problem. Once I chose the option that best fit my needs Russell got to work right away. The job was completed quickly and he left no mess behind, he even reseeded the area with grass seed and put straw down. After the next rain storm our yard was dry as a bone! Great job!
    Lori Davis-Furr
